Serving Latina Clients: A Stylist's Guide to Texture-Specific Keratin

Why Texture Knowledge Is Your Competitive Advantage

The Latina client base is one of the fastest-growing demographics in the beauty industry — and one of the most underserved. Why? Because most stylists are trained in one approach to keratin: heavy application, maximum straightening, uniform processing time. That works for some textures. For others, it's a disaster.

The stylists who learn to adapt their keratin technique to different textures don't just get better results — they build a loyal, referral-heavy clientele.

Adapting Your Technique by Texture

Fine & Straight (Type 1–2A)

Use a lighter application of Brasil Cacau Thermal Reconstruction (300 mL Set). These textures need less product — over-application leads to limp, greasy-looking results. Process for 20–30 minutes maximum. Focus on anti-frizz and shine rather than straightening.

Thick & Wavy (Type 2B–3A)

This is the sweet spot for the full Brasil Cacau Professional Kit (1L). Apply generously from mid-shaft to ends, process 40–50 minutes, and flat-iron in thin sections at 230°C. These clients see the most dramatic frizz reduction and will become your strongest referral source.

Curly & Coily (Type 3B–4C)

For tight curls and coils, the goal usually isn't pin-straight — it's manageability. Apply Brasil Cacau Step 2 (1L) in small sections, process 50–60 minutes, and use a lower iron temperature (200°C) with more passes. This preserves natural texture while dramatically cutting detangling and styling time.

The Consultation Framework

Before touching a single strand, ask these three questions:

  1. "What's your daily hair routine?" — Reveals how much time they spend and what they consider problems
  2. "What result are you hoping for?" — Straight, smooth, or just easier to manage? Never assume
  3. "Any chemical history?" — Relaxers, color, bleach? This determines processing time and heat settings

Building Cultural Trust

Many Latina clients have had bad salon experiences — stylists who didn't understand their texture or tried to "fix" it. Show that you see their hair as beautiful, not as a problem. Display diverse before/after photos. Learn basic Spanish hair terminology. These small efforts build enormous loyalty.
